Akihiro Yano is a former Japanese baseball player in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball. He started his career as the Number 2 Draft pick with the Chunichi Dragons in 1991 and played for the Hanshin Tigers from 1998 until his retirement in 2010. Currently, he serves as the Tigers' manager.
The Hanshin Tigers are a professional baseball team based in Nishinomiya, Hyogo, Japan. They are a member of the Central League in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). The Tigers were founded in 1935 and play their home games at Koshien Stadium.
The Tigers have won five Japan Series championships (1954, 1955, 1962, 1965, and 2003) and 11 Central League pennants. They are one of the most popular teams in Japan, and their fans are known for being rowdy and passionate.
The Tigers' fans are known for their unique cheering style, waving towels and chanting slogans. They are also known for their rowdy behavior, sometimes leading to violence. In 1985, a riot broke out at Koshien Stadium after the Tigers lost to the Yomiuri Giants in the Japan Series. The riot resulted in several injuries and arrests.
Despite their rowdy reputation, the Tigers' fans are some of the most loyal in baseball. They are always there to support their team, no matter what. The Tigers' fans are a big part of the team's uniqueness.
Several notable Japanese players from the Hanshin Tigers, such as Shintaro Fujinami, Kenji Johjima, Tsuyoshi Shinjo, Keichi Yabu, Kei Igawa, and Kyuji Fujikawa, have successfully transitioned to the Major League Baseball (MLB), leaving an indelible mark on both leagues.
